Test your knowledge of maintenance methods.
How is a cost effective maintenance process established to so that the process generates more money than it costs? The answer is to choose the most cost effective maintenance method for all components. There are maintenance methods for existing components:
- Condition Based Maintenance (CBM)
- Fixed Time Maintenance (FTM)
- Operate to Breakdown (OTB)
- EC or MP (Essential Care or Maintenance Prevention)
- Design for Reliability
- Design Out Maintenance
If you don’t know these concepts, you should purchase our Preventive Maintenance/Essential Care and Condition Monitoring Book. It’s the essential guide you need when developing your Preventive Maintenance Strategy.
What Maintenance Method would you choose for the 4 components below?
The answer is:
Pump= CBM
Motor= CBM
Seal= CBM
Coupling= CBM/FTM
CBM= condition based maintenance is the most cost efficient method when the component has a Failure Developing Period (FDP). Normally the cost to OTB normal cost more due to additional damage and downtime. FTM is also costly due to that you over maintaining the equipment and change out components before the end of their life.
Did you know that IDCON’s Condition Monitoring Standards books have 125 of the most common components and how to inspect and care for them?
This is an exercise from IDCON’s Preventive Maintenance course. This course teaches you how to select the correct maintenance method, document the right PMs, build a pilot area to systemize across your plant. For more information contact us at 919-847-8764.
